The debate regarding legal aid has been ongoing for months now as the government discusses cutting the legal aid bill. Campaign group UK Uncut recently held protests across England against the idea saying the cuts would “block access to justice for millions.”
As criminal defence lawyers, we believe everyone should have a fair trial – it is basic human rights. The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has said the legal aid costs are too high and is aiming to save £220m from the criminal legal aid bill in England and Wales. What are you thoughts?
